Do you offer gluten-free bread?

Yes!  We offer frozen gluten-free baguettes from Gifted Breads for a certified GF option.

For customers with gluten sensitivities vs. allergies, we hear that our bread is easier to digest as it contains a mix of grains including spelt, buckwheat, and corn flour which are low/no gluten. The natural fermentation process of sourdough also makes bread easier to digest. Finally, we use organic wheat and no preservatives, which could be the source of some sensitivities.

Of course, please consult with your doctor and consider your body’s individual needs.

Does your bread freeze well?

Yes!  Bread, baguettes and bagels can keep well in the freezer for a couple of months. Consider slicing the bread and freezing, so you can take out one slice at a time and toast. Or, if you want to full loaf on hand for your next dinner party, wrap tightly in a plastic bag, getting as much air out as possible.

Here is your guide for refreshing frozen bread:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and bake…

  • Boules (round loaves): 25–35 mins if frozen, 10–15 mins if thawed
  • Baguettes: 10–15 mins if frozen, 7–10 mins if thawed

PRO TIP: spray the outside of the loaf with water as you put in the oven. It will get the crust nice and crispy again!

Bagels: microwave for 15–30 seconds, slice and toast

Sliced bread: take out of the freezer and toast

*We also offer frozen bread at the shop! Whole boules, sliced sandwich loaves and GF baguettes, which are a great option for those who can’t get to the bakery as often, or who want to stock their freezers for arrival at their DCL homes!

How long does bread last?

Our sourdough loaves last 3–5 days on the counter or in a bread box. If it gets stale, don’t worry!

Run a cut chunk of bread under the faucet for 5 seconds or so. That’s right: get the bread wet. Put on a baking sheet, cut side down on a sheet pan and bake at 400 degrees F for about 10 mins. This will revive dried-out bread!
